New Vacation Rental Laws for Hawaii Island
We want to inform you of the Vacation Rental Legislation, Bill 108 that has been voted on and passed in November 2018. As your Real Estate Brokerage who is your legal Agent for managing your Vacation Rental, we are aware of what is required and we will assist our Clients to stay compliant with this new law as it becomes effective April 1, 2019.
Vacation Rental Registration Process
We will assist all of our Clients to complete this registration process expeditiously. No action needed now, however, please be prepared for after this new law passes on April 1st. If your vacation rental is located in the resorts, all that is required is to complete a simple Registration of your Vacation Rental Property with the County of Hawaii and pay the one time fee of $500.00. You must register within the deadline of October 2019 to operate a legal vacation rental.
In the meantime, please make sure you are in good standing with all your Property Taxes, GET, TAT, HOA dues and Permits as all these will be verified by the State and County of Hawaii as part of your Registration Process.
For Vacation Rentals outside Resort Zoning, there will be an additional Non-Conforming Use Permit required which we also will help guide you to complete. Hosted rentals and Bed and Breakfasts must comply with different regulations apart from Bill 108.
